Global CO2 levels have risen to 410 ppm on a permanent basis.  Every ton of carbon captured via industrial hemp reduces the CO2 in the atmosphere.

When this article was first written - CO2 levels were at 401ppm. Today - 410ppm as per NASA readings.  We’ve all heard about it for years; climate change, greenhouse gases, rising CO2 levels and melting polar ice caps.  All most people basically know is that it’s a problem and we need to stop it…somehow.  Confusing information abounds, conspiracy theorists claim it’s all a hoax and the average human doesn’t see anything they can do to help matters other than trying to reduce their own carbon footprint.  We have a slightly different viewpoint. Planting harvesting and using 214 million acres of hemp every year could make a difference.

Using millions of tons of hemp seed oil for bio-degradable plastics.... worth every penny.

The ways suggested are recycling, buying energy efficient products like appliances and light bulbs, turning down the heat, turning off the lights and perhaps buying an electric car.  But the rhetoric – and the belief that big business can’t be stopped -- leaves a lot of people scratching their heads and/or throwing up their hands.  In the 1970’s we were told the earth was entering a new ice age.  In the 1990’s it became global warming.  People are confused and we want to help clarify the issues.  Welcome to Climate Change 101.

Milancovitch Cycles

One of the most common arguments that climate change opponents use goes something like this:  "It's natural -- the earth has been heating up and cooling down forever.  It's not caused by humans; it's just the earth's normal cycles."

Natural global warming, and cooling, is considered to be initiated by Milankovitch cycles. These orbital and axial variations influence the initiation of climate change in long-term natural cycles of 'ice ages' and 'warm periods' known as 'glacial' and 'interglacial' periods. Our current climate forcing clearly shows we are outside of that natural cycle forcing range.

The natural cycle is range bound and well understood, largely constrained by the Milankovitch cycles. Since the beginning of the industrial age, humankind has caused such a dramatic departure from the natural cycle, that it is hard to imagine anyone thinking that we are still in the natural cycle.

Natural vs. Modern Forcing

Natural vs. Modern Climate Path

This departure is so dramatic that it has instigated a new era. Simply put, based on the evidence, mankind has forced the Earth climate system to depart from its natural cycle forcing.1

Carbon Dioxide Levels Rising

The CO2 levels in our world have reached unprecedented levels as we clearly see from the graphic below.2  Hemp can change this equation but it’s going to take 85 million hectares to do so…and worldwide there is perhaps 2 million acres of combined cannabis -- hemp and marijuana -- being grown as of November 2018 (and that is a seriously rough estimate but one that clearly shows that we are nowhere near the mark that could turn climate change around!) The 4 Per 1000 initiative states that the amount of carbon in the atmosphere increases by 4.3 BILLION tons every year.  A global cannabis initiative could reclaim 430 gigatonnes of CO2 per year. Reclaiming ruined farmland would be a start. The world's soils contain 1500 billion tons of carbon that the earth's soil has reclaimed.  A “4‰” annual growth rate of the soil carbon stock would make it possible to stop the present increase in atmospheric CO2.3

Here is one quick quote that may help further the average person’s understanding from a Yale 2017 article:

“At the current rate of growth in CO2, levels will hit 500 ppm within 50 years, putting us on track to reach temperature boosts of perhaps more than 3 degrees C (5.4°F) — a level that climate scientists say would cause bouts of extreme weather and sea level rise that would endanger global food supplies, cause disruptive mass migrations, and even destroy the Amazon rainforest through drought and fire.

“Each landmark event has given scientists and environmentalists a reason to restate their worries about what humans are doing to the climate. “Reaching 400 ppm is a stark reminder that the world is still not on a track to limit CO2 emissions and therefore climate impacts,” said Annmarie Eldering, deputy project scientist for NASA’s Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 satellite mission at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. “Passing this mark should motivate us to advocate for focused efforts to reduce emissions across the globe.”4

And it gets worse because it’s not only carbon dioxide but nitrous oxide as well.  Since the year 1750, nitrous oxide levels have risen 20 percent – from below 270 parts per billion (ppb) to more than 320 ppb. After carbon dioxide and methane, nitrous oxide (N2O) is the most potent greenhouse gas, trapping heat and contributing to global warming. It also destroys stratospheric ozone, which protects the planet from harmful ultraviolet rays.5

phytoremediation.jpgWhat is the solution?  Phytoremediation can give our planet a fighting chance and cannabis is the IDEAL plant to fight with!

From Wikipedia:  "Phytoremediation (from Ancient Greek φυτο (phyto), meaning "plant", and Latin remedium, meaning "restoring balance") describes the treatment of environmental problems (bioremediation) through the use of plants that mitigate the environmental problem without the need to excavate the contaminant material and dispose of it elsewhere.

“Phytoremediation is a cost-effective plant-based approach to remediation that takes advantage of the ability of plants to concentrate elements and compounds from the environment and to metabolize various molecules in their tissues.”6

Applied to the critical problem of rising global CO2 levels, cannabis is a natural solution. However, the worlds' elite prohibitionists and government types don't like cannabis.  Neither do the corporate globalists. In Canada, where cannabis has been legal (as "hemp") since 1998, the restrictions and rules are STILL quite draconian. Cannabis just doesn't quite fit the corporate agenda.

Phytoremediation of our atmosphere, our farmlands and contaminated regions is a rather bold vision and it is a global vision. This is a straight forward solution and one that can be started now; one that can be employed worldwide.  A global solution that requires only one simple act: REPEAL PROHIBITION all the way from the UN on down; for every nation, for every citizen on our planet. Then we would have a method to actually reduce CO2 -- pull it directly from the atmosphere and capture the carbon dioxide.

Then we would develop new products and industries to use the carbon as food, clothing, bio-fuel, bio-plastics and shelter. Then we could restore balance to our air and land.  Then our children can live in a world where the Tree of Life is free once again.
